Corregidor Island Fortress

In the entrance to Manila Bay can be found the tadpole-shaped Corregidor Island.

Its location meant it was an ideal spot for defending the city of Manila from attacks by enemy warships in the event of war, and it was therefore fortified with artillery.

The ruins of Mile-Long Barracks are one of the most photographed relics on the island, which also features other wartime structures, tunnels, and artillery.

The big guns of Corregidor are now silent and the ruins of buildings, structures, and tunnels around the island tell a very moving story of a war that claimed so many lives.
A visit to this former battleground is a memorable experience, and many visitors travel over from Manila to explore the island. There is a hotel to accommodate those wishing to stay overnight.
