Coron, Calamian Islands, Philippines
Coron, Calamian Islands, Philippines.

Coron is the colloquial short term for what are actually the Calamian Islands, situated to the very north of the chain of islands that make up Palawan. This group of islands includes the island of Coron, Sangat Island, Busuanga Island, Culion Island, and Calauit Island. This part os the Philippines is especially popular with divers, explorers, and birdwatchers.

Sangat Island is situated right amongst a number of World War II wrecks and offers world-class diving.

Busuanga has stunning scenery with rainforests, mountains, caves and an attractive coastline.

Culion Island offers peace and serenity. It has had a dark past as for many years it was a leper colony. The population enjoy a
simple style of living and are welcoming and hospitable.

Calauit Island is famous for its African wildlife! Here is a natural area where plants and animals exist with a minimum amount of human disturbance. It was declared a game preserve and wildlife sanctuary in 1977 after the country responded to an appeal by the International Union of Conservation of Nature to save endangered African animals.

Coron is reached by direct flights from Manila or El Nido, and also by ferry from El Nido.
